Safe Environment Policy and Schedule
In 2002 the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote and confirmed the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People charging every Catholic throughout the dioceses of the United States to serve each other with dignity and respect. Since that time, the Diocese of Fort Worth has instituted a program certifying parish trainers to conduct the Keeping Children and Youth Safe (KCYS) Programs for their fellow parishioners.
Immaculate Conception continues to work toward accomplishing Bishop Kevin Vann’s directive of having all its clergy, seminarians, school personnel, parish employees, and volunteers attend the Keeping Children and Youth Safe program. Priests and all volunteers must attend every three years in order to volunteer in our parish.
There are English and Spanish sessions scheduled on a variety of days and times to help accommodate all schedules. Whether your ministry deals directly with children or not, it is important to not only learn the behavioral boundaries of working with children and vulnerable adults but also to be aware of the reporting procedures of any suspected misconduct.
There are two different sessions of Keeping Children and Youth Safe. The three-hour session (Initial Training) is for those who have never attended the program or for those whose prior certification has expired and is beyond the 60-day grace period. An English and Spanish on-line retraining, two-hour session is available for those who attended the three-hour session and whose three-year certification will soon expire or is within the 60-day expiration grace period. The on-line certification date is effective until 60 days past the expiration date. If more than 60 days have expired, full initial training must be taken. The initial sessions are in the schedule below.
Attendance is by reservation only. Please call Terry Scaggs at 940-565-1770, ext. 219 or email: safeenvironment@iccdenton.org. Child care for the English sessions will be provided on request one week in advance of session. Childcare is always available at the Spanish sessions. All programs are for adults only unless otherwise specified. The 2015 sessions are below.
